The AABT5022 Advanced Laser IPL and Dermal Therapies course has been meticulously developed in consultation with industry experts to equip graduates with the essential skills and knowledge required to perform advanced skin treatments, as well as operate laser and IPL equipment safely.
This course prepares you for the SHB60221 Advanced Diploma of Skin Therapy by building the core skills and knowledge you need to succeed.

This course prepares you for the SHB60221 Advanced Diploma of Skin Therapy by building the core skills and knowledge you need to succeed to complete an Advanced Diploma.
Note: When looking for Laser training, always choose a course that offers face-to-face training and substantial clinic hours.
Attendance Requirements
Semester 1 – Classroom
- 10-day block for face-to-face theory and practical application (one day a week for 10-20 weeks)
- Self-paced study, continuing and completing the theory component online and with your trainer’s assistance
Semester 2 – Clinical
- 150 practical hours in our Laser/ Dermal clinic under the guidance of our fully qualified Trainer and Assessor
- For those already working in the industry, 50 of these hours can be completed externally under suitably qualified supervisors
- We train on the best Candela, Dr Pen Australia and Adena equipment
Prerequisites
Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who:
- Have completed or are enrolled in the SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy
- Have completed SHBBINF002 Maintain infection control standards
OR
- Have relevant experience in the application of knowledge in human biology, anatomy and physiology (e.g Bachelor of Dermal Sciences)
Course Details
- This unit satisfies the requirements for a Laser Officer Safety Certificate, Queensland approval No ED278.
- This unit satisfies the requirements for those wishing to obtain a licence for Laser hair removal in Western Australia and is approved by the Western Australia Radiological Council.
- This unit satisfies the Tasmanian Department of Health Radiation Unit laser safety requirements and recipients may apply for a licence to use a laser under supervision in Tasmania. This laser safety course is on their Approved course register.
- Perform thorough consultation to determine client hair reduction
- Determine contraindications to treatment through thorough observation and questioning
- Prepare treatment area, client and operator prior to patch testing
- Perform patch test and record results
- Design and record proposed treatment plan for client based on client requirements and patch test results
- Prepare clinical treatment area and laser equipment
- Prepare client and operator prior to treatment
- Perform laser or IPL hair reduction treatment
- Provide client with post treatment advice and pre-treatment advice
- Consult with client on advanced anti aging and skin rejuvenation requirements
- Conduct patch test
- Design and record proposed treatment plan for client based on client requirements and patch test results
- Prepare clinical treatment area and laser equipment
- Prepare client and operator prior to treatment
- Perform laser or IPL skin rejuvenation treatment
- Provide client with post treatment advice and pre-treatment advice
- Consult with client on skin rejuvenation requirements, including Skin needling, cosmeceutical peel, Laser and IPL skin rejuvenation Led treatments and micro- Dermabrasion
- Determine, in consultation with client, most appropriate treatment program, including Skin needling, cosmeceutical peel, Laser and IPL skin rejuvenation Led treatments and micro-Dermabrasion
- Apply cosmetic chemistry knowledge to select most appropriate products for client’s dermal therapy requirements
- Recommend and explain use of specialised Dermal Therapy formulations for specific skin treatments
- Prepare clinical treatment area and LED equipment
- Prepare client and operator prior to treatment, and perform treatment
- Provide client with post treatment advice and pre-treatment advice
- Prepare clinical treatment area and skin needling equipment
- Prepare client and operator prior to treatment, and perform treatment
- Provide client with post treatment advice and pre-treatment advice
- Prepare clinical treatment area and peel equipment
- Provide epidermal cosmeceutical skin peeling treatment
- Provide client with post treatment advice and pre-treatment advice
- Prepare clinical treatment area and hydro-dermabrasion and micro- dermabrasion equipment
